If doing business makes you feel like you don't have enough time to accomplish everything, you are not alone. Whether you are the owner of your business or the manager, it is always difficult to find enough time every day while maintaining a balance of work and good health.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is manage the time you have to work as well as in your business.
We asked our Facebook team members, I am a small business owner in Western Australia, for top tips on time management. This is their common wisdom
Make a list
Some business owners recommend using several lists or separate calendars for each area of their business, or you may want to have a single master list. Whether you use an app on a smartphone, a diary, a white paper, or an envelope backboard, the key is to get everything written. This way you can see what needs to be done for a while, rather than relying on your brain to remember everything.
Set your priorities
Once you have decided on what is on your to-do list, you can determine what needs to be done. You may find that you can supply some items on your list, especially if there are tasks outside of your area of expertise.
You can also work through your to-do list and identify what is urgent (needs to be done now) versus what is important (what brings you closer to your goal). Knowing this can help you determine your time to get the most out of your day.
Know yourself
It is important to find out when the most productive time of the day is for you. You may like to get up early to get started while your energy and concentration are high. Maybe you like to work at night when your family is quiet. Some of our members like to solve important (or most frightening) problems in the morning, which helps determine the remaining days to be successful.
If you know you are likely to be distracted, plan ahead to help keep your focus. You may want to have a specific time checking your email or social media so these are not what you really want to achieve that day.
Examine how you spend your time
Are you wasting your time, wasting time, or investing time in your business? It is often important to set boundaries, especially if you work from home in a busy family. Try to set aside dedicated working hours and let your family members know when you will and will not be.
